Exploring Thooli Art

In my quest to learn different kinds of art styles I came across "Thooli Art". It is a self-developed art form introduced by Artist Shaji Subramaniam. When I came across this art form I made an attempt to acquire more knowledge about it. Thooli stands for a pen in a South Indian language, and hence this art was given its name. It initially started as a pen-based art but further developed and was then given a new picture by using paints.

I not only got the opportunity to learn this art from the artist himself but also got the opportunity to organise the first-ever workshop that he conducted. It was a wonderful experience of working with such a creative artist and getting to know his style of art this closely. It was a 4 days art workshop and 12 people joined us, it was a wonderful learning experience. In the limited span of 4 days, he taught the basics of perspectives, human figures and also 2 final masterpieces of thooli art were created, one of the traditional pen art and secondly the more developed version using paints on canvas.

As I have mentioned earlier, grasping each opportunity provides you with more knowledge. Similarly, I used this opportunity that I received to learn the most out of it. I not only learnt from him but also put my organisational skills at work and created a friendly environment for all the artists present.

I thank Chandra Raval Sir and Shaji Subramaniam Sir, who provided me with such a great opportunity to grow and develop.
